Raising awareness and sense of responsibility is very essential in preservation efforts. Every member of society should see the importance of living in moderation, refraining from harmful activities and managing wastes properly. The best way to deliver the sense of urgency and belonging is to invite them to see directly the state of nature in which they live. Indonesian Ministry of Environment also see the importance of direct experience for society and thus the program Kemah Hijau is born. Kemah Hijau is an environmental education program held in open air, so that participants can bask in nature.
Sahabat Alam along with 302 students of all ages and teachers coming from 13 provinces of Indonesia attended the program on 24-27 June 2009 at Perum Perhutani Situ Gunung – Cisaat, Sukabumi, Jawa Barat. It was filled with presentation, discussion, bio-investigation, local potential mapping, environmental film and exhibition, and ended with Children of the Earth Declaration.
Hopefully after all the activities, participants could be more caring towards nature and be more eager in joining conservation measures. The program also encourages young minds to invent breakthrough actions to improve and protect our nature.
