One of the major setbacks in environment conservation efforts is the lack of proliferation, especially among younger members of society. Conventional methods of raising awareness fail due to its lack of appeal among young people and incompatibility with current trends and technology. To ensure the inclusion of young people, Panasonic held Kid Witness News program. It’s a video-making competition for children of 10-15 years old. On National Children’s Day, KWN 2009 is launched under the theme of “My Country, My Culture and Environment”.

The event was attended by Mr. Ichiro Suganuma – President Director PT. Panasonic Gobel Indonesia; Ms. Santi Turino – Corporate Communication Manager PT. Panasonic Gobel Indonesia; Mr. Subagjo Budisantoso, Vice Dean of IKJ and also the panel of judges of KWN Indonesia 2009. As a part of environmental preservation movement and the bridge between those measures and young generation, Sahabat Alam attended and even has participated in the event. Representing Sahabat Alam, Adeline Tiffanie Suwana was present as the script writer and presenter of film “BAKAU”, the National Champion of KWN Indonesia 2007. The video represented Indonesia in International KWN where it snatched Ecology Award and Web Award in Tokyo, Japan last June 2008.

It is an honor to have brought international attention towards conservation efforts in Indonesia. It is hoped that through this event and the participation of Sahabat Alam, Indonesian young minds would be even more encouraged to join preservation efforts and will associate such measures as their responsibility as well.
