Reaching Common Ground for Our Climate

Sometimes, not everyone can look at the same thing and reach the same conclusion. Oftentimes, interests and ideas clash and it will be impossible to garner complete support for a cause. Yet, complete support is what is necessary for any movement or efforts to thrive, including when it comes to environmental preservation efforts. When that happens, we need to be able to negotiate and find a common ground where both sides will compromise to achieve their main objective.

As an essential part of the movement, children and youths should acquire the necessary negotiation and debating skills. That is why, on 14-15 October 2009, Sahabat Alam participated in “Youth Debate and Negotiation Skills on Climate Change” organized and supported by Indonesian Ministry of Environment in cooperation with Hanns Seidel Foundation Indonesia at Hyatt Hotel, Bali.

Through this event, younger generations are encouraged to speak their opinions in respectable ways as well as making room for compromise. This way, a middle ground will be reached where all parties involved will enjoy a win-win situation.
