Biodiversity Day 2010

Biodiversity receives a lot of spotlight in the pursuit of preserving the environment because it is the key to achieve balance in nature. If any species is missing from the food chain, other species in the ecosystem, or even other, will be affected by being over or underpopulated. Thus, even though certain species massive economic value if harvested or poached, their living existence is still crucial to sustain overall survival of every creature. That is why, endangered species should be taken seriously.

In the spirit of reminding people the importance of biodiversity, Sahabat Alam along with with Indonesian Biodiversity Foundation (Yayasan Kehati) celebrated International Biodiversity Day by planting 17 different native Indonesian plants at the yard of Jubilee School, Sunter, Jakarta Utara, Indonesia. These activities are part of the support for Green Wave Program from the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity. The event aimed to accustom young citizens to be more active in preserving the environment around them and specifically biodiversitiy.
