Let’s Take Care of the Planet

Environmental preservation efforts are not the responsibility of a handful of countries but every nation on earth. The interconnectivity of each ecosystem on our earth requires consistent and relentless effort from all parties that wish to stay on earth. This means, young generation everywhere is connected by this very purpose to collaborate together in achieving the same goal. The Brazilian Ministry of Education realized this and invited the 566 delegation from 52 countries to Children and Youth International Conference "Let's Take Care of The Planet" located at Training Centre of the National Confederation of Industrial Workers (CNTI) in the city of Luiziania, 45 minutes from Brasilia - the capital of Brazil.

As an organization active in working with youth towards preserving the environment, Sahabat Alam was chosen to represent Indonesia in the conference. Sahabat Alam was honored to have been involved in the writing of “International Charter of Responsibility” as a representative of Asia and Oceania along with delegates of Timor Leste and India to collaborate with delegates representing Africa, America and Europe. Not stopping there, Sahabat Alam was also appointed to represent the region in reading the International Charter of Responsibility in the presence of three different audiences: the people of Luiziana, the people of Brasilia and members of Brazilian House of Representative.

The formulation of this international chapter marks the significant role of children in environmental efforts as well as a display of their commitment. The fact that this charter would be forwarded towards world leader shows that regardless of the age of the author, this charter bears essential information and aspiration of young generation worldwide regarding how nations handle environmental problems. Thus, they need to be taken into account. This charter also serves as an inspiration for children everywhere to start preserving the environment.
