Everything in nature is interconnected with each other. Whatever happened in one environment could easily affect another and the combinations of endless the creature inside shape the events in nature we see every day. While this could mean one good thing can lead to another, the inverse of that is equally true. One catastrophe in nature can lead to a bigger problem somewhere and sometime in the future. When that happens, it would be too hard to trace the cause amidst all the damage.
To prevent series of interrelated disasters, the organization Caretakers of The Environment believes that everyone needs to see the planet as one interdependent environment in order to be more careful in what they do towards nature. They believe the only way to do so is through having youths and children meet and work together. Thus, the annual international conference of CEI (Caretakers of The Environment International) was born.
The 24th annual CEI conference was held in Batu, Malang, East Java, Indonesia. Attended by 220 students from 18 countries, the conference talked about the theme of “Biodiversity and Culture”. Sahabat Alam attended the conference to represent Indonesian youth and work together with children of other countries. It is hoped that through this event, knowledge and issues about other places could be shared so that these young minds could understand more of this global problem with an expanded horizon.
