Sahabat Alam believes that the best way to induce love of nature among youths it through direct interaction with it. With direct experience, young generation would be more familiar with biodiversity and the ecosystem as well as their importance and how to preserve them. Thus, Sahabat Alam along with four different schools: SDN Giri Mukti, SDN Jayagiri, SDN Rarahan and SMP Bina Utama are having National Parks Expedition at Gunung Gede Pangrango, Cibodas.
Mount Gede National Park was declared as the World Network of Biosphere Reserves by UNESCO in the year of 1977 for its rich biodiversity. Conserved within this park is a diverse variety of birds in Java , among them is Javan Hawk-Eagle (Spizaetus bartelsi), Javan Scoops-Owl Burung Hantu (Otus angelinae) as well as endangered mammals such as Javan Surili, Javan Lutung, Silvery Gibbon; Giant Trees "Rasamala" and virgin waterfalls.
To end the event, Sahabat Alam along with the students planted giant trees Rasamala in both inside the park and on the schools yards. With this event, children’s sense of responsibility and belonging towards nature should be harnessed and thus they would be more encouraged to contribute more in preservation efforts.
