Preserving National Flora and Fauna

Preserving the environment does not simply revolve around one issue like managing waste, having a more sustainable lifestyle or increasing plants population, but also maintaining the balance in nature as a whole. That is why, biodiversity becomes such a crucial aspect of nature that everyone should care and try to save. Balance of nature cannot be achieved when one member of it was missing. The effect of this absence will be felt by all creatures on earth, thus, we need to protect any creature from extinction.

Unfortunately, not many people are aware of this urgency, especially young people. Yet, they are the most important actor to rally the movement and any other conservation measures forward. Thus, as part of celebrating “Hari Cinta Puspa dan Satwa Nasional”, Sahabat Alam gathered young generation to participate in Environmental Action. There are 1.569 students from 14 Primary Schools, 11 Secondary Schools and Club Sahabat Alam from Jabodetabek a gathering at University of Indonesia to join talkshow, story-telling and watch environmental film together. The event was wrapped up by planting fruit-bearing trees and releasing birds with the help of Mr. Prof. Dr. H. Gusti Muhammat Hatta, Indonesian Ministry of Environment with his wife, Mr. Dr. Ir. Muhammad Anis, M. Met from University of Indonesia and Mr. DR. Henri Bastaman Deputy VI, Ministry of Environment Indonesia.

This event aimed to proliferate environmental awareness among young people through familiar and fun activities. It is hoped that they will be more considerate towards nature and join the movement to preserve the nature we live in.
