Indonesia is a country not only rich in biodiversity but also in culture. There are thousands of folk songs and dances, numerous local languages and traditional costumes reflecting the diversity of our local people. Not to mention, Indonesian culture actually taught us to live a more sustainable lifestyle. The prime example of this is batik. Batik is designated as an "Indonesian Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity" from Indonesia by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organization), a United Nation Body on Education, Science and Culture.
With natural coloring to dye fabric and adorn it with beautifiul patterns, Batik making process is definitely an epitome of sustainable lifestyle and at the same time, an incentive to preserve floral biodiversity to be able to continue this culture. Sahabat Alam along with children from Pekalongan make batik together with natural color in Pekalongan Batik Museum. It is hoped that this event could motivate the children to have a more sustainable lifestyle and to appreciate local culture more.
